How are the garden plants posted?
We ship our plants via Australia Posts' E-Parcel system. The E-Parcel system is a very reliable and quick way of sending plants around the country, and most plants arrive in 1-5 days. Your parcel is shipped with a tracking number, so we can trace it along the way, and a signature will be required on delivery for security purposes, unless you leave us a note to leave the plants at your home if no one is there to accept the delivery. On Monday, you will receive an email from Australia Post with tracking information for your parcel, and this allows you to trace your garden plants every step of the way.
National Tropical Plants Nursery is located in a regional area of Queensland, and our nearest post office is in Bundaberg. We take all plant parcels to Bundaberg on Monday, which gets them to you extra quick. Most areas will receive their garden plants in 1 to 5 days, depending on
location. We only ship our plants on Monday's to give them the longest amount of time possible to reach you before the weekend; preventing them from unnecesarily spending the weekend at a post office somwhere, when they could be happily potted up by you! To allow for proper preparation, we have a cut off time for orders on Friday morning; orders paid for before Friday morning will be sent the following monday, all other orders will be processed the week after. Please note we are currently sending MOST Monday's, but not every week. top of the page
How are your plants packaged?
Our garden plants travel in luxury! They are packaged with the greatest
care. Our preparation starts on Saturday, when all plants are collected. Friday morning is our cut-off time, and only orders paid for before Friday morning are processed to allow for proper preparation of our garden plants.
Our preparation starts on Saturday, when all plants are collected. They are taken out of their pots and soaked in seaweed solution which strenghtens them for transport and protects them against disease and pests. It also nourishes them along the journey and gives them a boost when you plant them in your pot or garden. Some plants are not soaked, but rather just dipped in the seaweed solution, such as 'Dracaena draco', 'succulents' and other fleshy rooted plants which could easily rot if soaked too long. Each plant is prepared following its individual requirement.
We often get questions about why we ship our plants without their pots. There are many reasons for this, but the main reason is that the plants travel better, and therefore grow better in your garden. Soil harbours many pests and diseases, which are removed by removing the soil. Sending plants without soil also keeps the costs of shipping down, allowing us to send our plants to you at great prices! We believe sending plants in pots
damages their roots, due to them being shaken around too much; our plants are taped down very securely and do not move an inch! Many customers have confirmed that 'even' Australia Post did not move or damage the plants!
After a good soak, we wrap the roots in moist media, such as shredded newspaper, and they are then wrapped in plastic to keep the moisture in. Sometimes we cut plants back a bit before posting, such as Gardenia's, Azalea's and Bauhinia's to help them retain moisture better, reduce stress, and to create a better shape. This does not harm the plant, is merely encourages new growth, and your plants are guaranteed to regrow very quickly.
Once wrapped, we secure the plastic with tape and label it to assist you in identifying the plant. Our nursery details, including our phone number, are on the label,to give you an easy reference to the plant's origin. The name of the plant is also written in pencil on the back of the label.
Plants are packaged in a strong cardboard box to prevent damage to
stems and foliage. The box is filled up with shredded newspaper to act as a shock barrier, then is clearly addressed and marked as ‘Live plants – do not leave in sun’.
From our online nursery, we send all plants on Monday, and we do not package them more than 1 day before postage, so your plants are always fresh and in optimum condition for travel! top of the page
When do you send the parcels?
We send all orders most Monday's. At National Tropical Plants we spend a lot of time preparing our plants for transport ensuring they travel as
comfortably as possible, so we are unable to process any orders after Friday morning . Orders paid for after Friday morning will be posted the following week. We only post orders on Monday's to give them sufficient time to arrive before the weekend. top of the page
Where do you send your garden plants to?
National Tropicals Plant Nursery can send plants to Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, ACT and the Northern Territory. We DO NOT send plants to Western Australia and Tasmania. We only send plants within Australia, and we DO NOT accept orders which are sent internationally unless delivery is to an Australian address excluding Tasmania or Western Australia. top of the page
How much does it cost to have my plants home delivered?
Postage prices start at only $7.50 for orders up to 500g. For parcels over 500g, the price depends on the amount and weight of the plants, and your location. The easiest way for a postage quote is to add the plants to your cart, and use our postage calculator. An indication of postage prices
to your state and postcode can be found on our postage prices page.
How long does it take for my plants to arrive?
All our garden plants, unless otherwise stated, are posted on Monday. Our plants will arrive in 1-5 days, depending on your location. Parcels in South Queensland (around Brisbane) and around the Wide Bay could arrive as early as Tuesday, whereas parcels to other destinations which are further away may arrive on Thursday or Friday. We try and ship all orders to the Northern Territory via express post at no extra charge.
Sometimes we decide it is best to hold your order for another week, for
example if there are public holidays holding up the postal system, or if we think the weather is not suitable. Sometimes weather conditions are severe and it’s best to hold the plants until travel conditions improve. We will always contact you in such a situation, or you can notify us of any weather conditions in your area. top of the page
