Allamanda Double Yellow

Allamanda Double Yellow is a gorgeous plant with beautiful glossy green foliage and very large flowers. Flowers are trumpet shaped, double and yellow in colour. The flowers are short lived, usually not lasting any longer than 2 days, but new flowers are created almost year round, and this plant is almost always in flower.

Although this plant is not a climbing plant, it lends itself really well to being tied around unsightly poles or trees. The long trailing branches can be easily directed and tied up. Without support, you can prune it into a gorgeous shrub, which would be covered in yellow flowers! I have 2 growing up each end of the verandah (I’ve twisted it around the poles and kept it there with ties), and have left it to trail along the roof; it looks absolutely stunning, smells delicious and gets compliments all the time. It would reach about 5m in height and is fast growing.

It would be suitable to use as a spectacular, fast growing screen or hedge, as it can be pruned right from when the plants are very young. Pruning it right from the start will encourage a bushy habit, and will make a nice thick hedge or screen.

The Golden Trumpet is very easy to grow and will be an outstanding feature in the garden. It needs minimal water and can be grown in full sun to part shade. It needs regular applications of fertiliser to perform at its best, and is best in frost-free areas.
