The Christmas is similar in appearance to the Cuban Royal palm, only in dwarf form. It grows to around 5m tall and has a beautiful short green crownshaft with compact feather leaves. Christmas Palms are native to the Philippines and are popular landscaping palms throughout the world. It produces showy clusters of bright red fruit, which are produced around Christmas time in the USA (hence the name ‘Christmas Palm’). Christmas Palms are fast growing and are very tolerant of neglect. Veitchia merrillii is also excellent in group plantings, with 2 or 3 palms planted close together. This forces the palms to grow gracefully outwards from the trunks. Christmas Palms are not hard to grow and will grow well in most soils, as long as it is well-draining. Best grown in full sun to part shade with regular watering. Keep in shade however while young, and slowly adjust to full sun. This palm will not tolerate frost and will need to be grown in warm climates, indoors, or in pots which can be moved to a frost-free place in winter. Common names: Christmas Palm, Manila Palm, Dwarf Royal Palm, Dwarf Cuban Royal Palm Supplied as: Plants / seedlings, 10-15cm tall.
