The Garlic Vine (Mansoa allicea)

The Garlic Vine (mansoa allicea) is native to Tropical South America. It is named for the garlicky smell of its leaves and flowers, especially when crushed. It is a very rare tropical plant, not often seen in gardens or cultivation. This plant has been used for medicinal purposes and some people believe it to shun away bad luck.

This decorative evergreen vine will grow up to 2.5m. The vine’s flowers bloom with multiple colours at the same time and will range in combinations of deep to pale lavender with white. Blooms are abundant in the Spring and Autumn and in warmer areas may have some flowers on and off throughout the year.

The Garlic Vine needs full sun to half-shade and is hardy to -1 C. This flowering vine is low maintenance and has tolerance for numerous soil conditions.

Growing Tips for The Garlic Vine

The Garlic Vine can be grown in containers and should be trimmed after the flowers are gone. A popular suggestion is to grow in well-drained soilless potting mix, keeping the compost moist, but not overwatering. It helps to mist the leaves daily and then reduce watering in winter.

Supplied as: Plants, 125mm pots, but supplied bareroot for mailorder. Aprox 10-20cm tall.
