Queen’s Agave is native to Mexico where it grows in large colonies along the steep slopes of the mountains. Many people consider the Queen’s Agave the most beautiful and desirable for containerizing. It has beautiful wide, thick, green leaves with distinct white markings that are smooth to touch. Queen’s Agave is highly variable in form, but in general the rosettes (up to 45cm in diameter) are small and compact and the perfectly symmetrical leaves are 15-20cm long. At the end of each leaf is a short and robust black thorn. Inflorescence is a spike, 2-4m high, containing many flowers of various colours, often with shades of purple or red. The mother plant dies after flowering. It reproduces by seed (dispersed in the wind) and offsets that are produced at the base of the plant. The Queen’s Agave is as cold-hardy as Agaves get, and so is a favourite in many southern gardens and colder climates. It is frost tolerant to around -10. It requires well draining soil and plenty of sunlight. It should be kept pretty well dry in winter. Water well during spring and summer, and add a potassium rich fertilizer. Common names: Royal Agave, Queen Victoria’s Agave, Queen’s Agave supplied as:small plants, aprox. 40mm wide Thank you for visiting National Tropical Plants plant nursery - buy Queens Agave (Victoria-reginae) online at National Tropical Plant Nursery, Garden Nursery & Mail order nursery for garden plants & tropical plants. I love my little Agaves. They must be very beautiful in their native colonies. I have three, each in 20cm pots and basking near the windows for Sydney's morning Sun.
