Lily of the Nile (Agapanthus africanus)

Ask a question about this product

Agapanthus africanus is a stunning garden plant which originates in South Africa. It has  beautiful bright green, slim leaves and a tall flower stalk. Flowers are pendulous and light blue and are borne in a cluster on top of the flower stalk, providing a wonderful display of colour. Sometimes they can be dark blue or white also.

Growing the Lily of the Nile

Agapanthus africanus is best grown in well draining soil, in the garden or pots. Soil should be a sandy mix which does not get water logged, and is slightly acidic. Fertilise regularly with a slow release fertiliser. Best flowering is achieved when it is pot bound – this is an excellent container plant!

This Agapanthus is very easy to care for. It is frost hardy to several degrees, and also drought hardy. It needs protection from severe frosts, or prolonged frost.

Common names: Lily of the Nile, Plum Plum.

Supplied as: Plants 10-20 cms tall
