Beehive Ginger (Zingiber spectabile)

Zingiber spectabile (Beehive Ginger) native of Thailand is very similar to the "Golden Beehive Ginger but orange cones instead of red. The cones grow on short spike from the base of the plant. In tropical areas the plant will grow all year around but in cooler climates goes dormant in winter. The cones produce brown-yellow flowers that age to red colour. Plant in part shade soil should be well drained and moist. Will grow as far south as Sydney. When you receive the rhizome it is best planted in a pot till it's established.

Grow Notes Plant with any new shoot-buds upwards 3-4 cms deep leave new shoots out of the soil.Water well when planting and afterwards only to keep the soil moist. Keep the pot in a warm place with filtered sunlight.Use slow release fertilizer when plant is young.
