Azalea Fairy Queen has masses of stunning small, semi double hose-in-hose pink flowers on medium bushy growth. Flowers profusely mid-season.

Growing Azalea’s

There are thousands of different varieties of Azalea, each one as striking and beautiful as the next. They grow well in most areas in Australia, are naturally easy to grow and provide an awesome show of flowers!

Azaleas come in various shapes and sizes, from 80cm to 4 meters tall and in a range of colours from pinks to purples, yellows to reds. There are 2 basic flower types, the ‘single flower’ (very hardy) and ‘double’ or ‘hose in hose’ as doubles are commonly called.

Azalea’s can be grown in almost any position, from full sun to shade. Most will grow well in open garden & pots.

Provide Azalea’s with a well draining soil, which is acidic, PH of 5 to 6.5. Azaleas very much dislike Lime. Take the plant out of the pot, and make sure to tease the roots, as the plant will be unable to spread otherwise. You can do this by slicing through the roots with an old knife, and pulling the matted roots apart gently outwards, encouraging the plant to extend its roots into the new soil or potting mix. Water in well with seaweed solution mixed in water & fertilize regularly. Always keep your Azalea moist, not wet, at all times, they resent drying out.

Azaleas have a shallow root system and it is important to mulch well if grown in the garden, to keep the moisture where the roots are. Make sure to dig a hole at least twice as big as the pot of the plant. In pots, use a good quality (preferably specific Azalea mix) potting mix, and keep consistently moist, not wet. Don’t overwater in winter. Plant in a suitable size pot, not too big as it will cause root rot.

Prune after flowering (by about 1/3), tip prune to promote bushy growth, and dead head spent flowers.

Azalea’s can be easily trimmed into a standard, by regular pruning.

Size: Small plants, 5-10cm tall
